3 San Diego Restaurants You Need to Try
There is never a shortage of new restaurants opening all around San Diego, and our city never ceases to impress. New restaurants are opening up regularly, keeping our calendars busy and bellies full. If you've known me for a while, you may be aware that I am quite the foodie, always seeking out new restaurants and sipping on tequila cocktails or obscure wines. Three restaurants in San Diego have captured my attention and kept me coming back, with the same impression they made on my first visit.
This Mediterranean restaurant is the standout of East Village and quite possibly all of Downtown San Diego. Chef Travis Swikard did a beautiful job of curating a menu, that blends dishes from countries that sit on the Mediterranean coastline. As you walk into the restaurant, your senses are heightened by the beautiful ambiance, the lively energy in the room, and drool-worthy smells wafting in from the kitchen. I have become a regular at Callie, and frequently crave dishes that create an experience.
What to get:
Hummus served with house pita
Japanese Kanpachi
Beef Tartare
Aleppo Chicken
Crudo is the latest to touch down in Little Italy, bringing a sleek and sexy seafood spot to the heart of the neighborhood. The fusion of Mexican, Peruvian, Italian, and Asian fresh seafood dishes will electrify your taste buds. Enjoy a [large] glass of wine at the bar accompanied by a blue crab tostada topped with their delectable house-made hot sauce.
Not the newest restaurant on the scene but newer to me, The Waverly in Cardiff is an aesthetic dream. The chic decor and open air, yet private, patio feel like you've been transported to Tulum for an afternoon cocktail. Start by ordering the Bodega Boy cocktail. I highly recommend subbing out the mezcal for tequila in this cocktail unless you prefer the smoky flavors of mezcal. As for food, you’ll want to try the Caesar Salad, Filet-O-Fish Sandwich, and finish off with the Butterscotch Pudding.
