The Ultimate Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe

November has arrived and Thanksgiving draws near! One of my most cherished traditions for Thanksgiving? The sweet and perfect, sweet potato casserole. In today's blog, we're diving deep into my favorite fall dish; whether you're an aspiring chef or a kitchen explorer, this is an easy recipe with the most delicious result. This sweet potato casserole will not only be the star of your Thanksgiving feast but also a heartfelt ode to the warmth of the season. Here are the ingredients you will need!

Ingredients:

Top Crust

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts (pecans preferred)

  • 1/3 stick butter -melted

Casserole Base

  • 3 cups mashed sweet potato

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 eggs -- well beaten

  • 1/2 cup melted butter

Directions

  1. Prepare the Top Crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, chopped nuts, and 1/4 cup of butter. Mix until you have a crumbly texture. Set this mixture aside.

  2. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. Mix the Sweet Potato Base: In another mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla extract, eggs, and melted butter. Mix this thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  4. Assemble the Casserole: Butter a baking dish and pour the sweet potato mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.

  5. Add the Top Crust: Sprinkle the surface of the sweet potato mixture evenly with the previously prepared crust mixture. This will form a sweet and nutty topping for your casserole.

  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the sweet potato mixture is set.

  7. Allow to Set: After baking, let the sweet potato casserole rest for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and the casserole to firm up.

  8. Serve: Serve your delicious sweet potato casserole as a delightful side dish at your Thanksgiving feast or any gathering.

This recipe serves 6, but consider doubling it. Leftovers are often devoured, and they also freeze beautifully, offering a taste of this comforting dish whenever you crave it.
