5 Best Restaurants for Tacos & Margaritas in San Diego
Whether you’re visiting San Diego or you’re one of the lucky ones that gets to call it home, if you’re like me I'm always ready for a delicious taco and a refreshing margarita. Luckily, San Diego is the home to some of the best tacos and margaritas you’ll ever have! I’ve rounded up a few of my go-to spots, they are musts to check out!
First up on the taco & tequila tour is a local’s favorite, Cantina Mayahuel. Tucked away on the North Park & Normal Heights border, Cantina Mayahuel is a real, authentic experience, so don’t expect any fancy margarita options or queso dip on the menu. But, one thing is guaranteed: fresh margaritas (make it spicy with a tajin rim, if you’re like me) and delicious carnitas tacos. On top of that, Cantina has one of the best (and longest) happy hours around! Tuesday through Friday from 12-6pm you can get $5 margaritas and $6 street tacos.

Lola 55 is an East Village gem with a divine ambiance and delicious tacos. This little corner spot is easy to miss and truthfully, easy to get lost in the shuffle of downtown. But, those that have experienced this chef-driven spot understand that this could just be one of the city's best kept secrets. Not for long though… Lola 55 was recently featured in Michelin’s guide of Best Mexican Restaurants in San Diego.
Best Taco: Baja Style Fish or Steak Taco

Sometimes you just need a really good taco and a beer. This one doesn’t make the list for margaritas but this easy, walk-up taco shop has a few locations in San Diego. Taco Stand is notorious for its long line outside of their Encinitas location and their delicious tacos. They’ve since opened locations in North Park and La Jolla.
Best Taco: Camaron (Spicy Shrimp)
Best Margarita: Cerveza
La Dona took over the location of a local favorite Mexican spot, so saying it had big shoes to fill is an understatement. OB locals and beyond quickly approved. La Dona serves up fresh homemade tortillas, delicious blackened mahi tacos and skinny margaritas served in Topo Chico bottles. Their margarita selection is vast, which is a sure sign to uber there and back.

Salud prides themselves on being authentic Mexican street food and they don’t disappoint. A casual spot to pop in, order at the counter and (hopefully) find a seat. Their taco menu is diverse and serves up options for everyone's taste buds. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you choose so grab a few different options!
